As soon as someone picks reads the title Fat Girl they know what is hidden in the pages. The title is not a vague word that was only mentioned once in the book, but it is two sharp words that are repeated a good five-hundred times in the two-hundred page book. Fat Girl is about an overweight girl's life and struggles due to being overweight. It does not mention any event that does not tie to being fat because Judith Moore mentions events that occurred in her life which somehow are affected by her weight. The title sums up the entire story of Judith in two words and those two words had become her name, the name she was called by at all times. The reader can even forget the author's name at times due to the unbelievable amount of times that Judith was called "fat girl." This piece of literature is able to describe an overweight girl's life with her emotions, grief and reasons for being overweight. Fat Girl sums up the struggles and thoughts of an ordinary "fat girl" who is not able to control her weight. "That's what it was like to be a fat girl" (Moore 85). This quote is a continuation of the title because it describes what it feels like to be overweight. Judith constantly describes how big of an outsider she felt when she was around kids at school. Her constant struggle with trying to lose weight and not seeing any results describes the title. At school the boys would surround her and call her "fatso" and "fat girl" as if she had no name. The pages filled with detailed descriptions are able to capture the reader's attention and evoke emotion as much as the short title.
