I have not finished Soul Surfer yet, but have discovered so many similarities and connections to my personal life. Besides the fact that both, Bethany and I, are quite risky, adventurous, and passionate towards a sport, we have much more in common. Both of us are strong believers in Christianity and allow it to play a huge role in our lives. Bethany goes to church every Sunday and goes to many gatherings and church-related events. Like Bethany, my family and I attend church every Sunday as well. We pray every day and are thankful for every day God gives us. Both of us also go to all church-related events and help the church in every way possible. Religion plays a huge role in both our lives, making us strong Christians and firm believers in our faith. Another connection I have discovered about Bethany is the fact that both of us are afraid of spiders and snakes. Bethany completely freaks out when she sees snakes or spiders, which results in her having nightmares and less sleep. Unlike Bethany, I do not freak out, but I do get nightmares and have lack of sleep as well. Another connection between us is that we both find satisfaction in the same music genre. Both of us enjoy classic rock relating with Christianity and bring God into the lyrics, showing his mightiness and greatness. Relating with this connection, both of us like Switchfoot, which is basically a band of boy surfers who include God in their lyrics and have amazing beats in their songs. Lastly, the similarity between Bethany and I is that both of our parents are hard on us when it comes to everything, especially grades. Even when it comes to simple tasks, such as doing chores or helping out people, our parents want us to be the best people we can be and complete these tasks. When it comes to grades, they push us to pull off straight A's. They make us sit at our desks and keep pushing us to finish up our homework and not mess around. Even though, Bethany gets homeschooled and I go to private Armenian high school, we still have the same motivation of our parents to get the best grades and bring the best out of us.
