I have not read many of Erik Larson's work. In fact, I have not read any of his work, except for The Devil in the White City. Although this is the only work of his that I am acquainted with, I very much like his writing style and language. Most authors drag on and on during the first few chapters laying out the setting, describing the characters, giving their own back stories, etc. At times, it even feels as if you are reading empty words that mean nothing. It takes ages for the story to captivate the reader! However, Erik Larson's writing is different. He is able to organize the setting, the time era, the tone, and the plot in a very efficient manner. He immediately makes it interesting, and as he describes each little detail, his written words paint a vivid picture in the reader's mind. His language is rich, yet easy to understand. He does not drag on his thoughts, causing the reader to sidetrack and lose total comprehension of the English language. It is a pleasure to read his work.
