"The Bell Jar" by Silvia Plath is considered to be a memoir. The whole story takes place within the time period of six months. After that time period comes her suicide. Usually when we read tragic stories, it is because everything goes wrong at nearly the same time. However, that is not the situation here. Esther Greenwood was a woman with a very bright future. She had everything going for her but yet, she let the superficiality and the views of society get to her and that caused her to take away her own life.To me this is absurd but Esther Greenwood's suicide has effected my life. The problems that Esther had do not even seem like problems to me. Yet I think everyday that I might be misunderstanding the world in which I want to work and live in my future. I envision a work environment where everyone is just like me and thinks like me. I want to enter the corporate business world. All I can see as a seventeen year old boy is a place where everyone wears suits, everybody is formal in language, everybody is in conferences all day long, and there is plenty of interaction among colleagues. That world seems perfect however, I do not have enough experience to see it first hand. It could be so corrupt that I might regret the path of life that I have chosen. I do not agree with Esther's decision to commit suicide, however, I do not judge or blame her because I am able to see the potential harm those kind of problems could inflict on a person's mental wellness.
