Caroline Paul, the writer of her own memoir, titled the book she wrote Fighting Fire . The title she chose to sell and identify her memoir is not only eye catching, but it is also a foreshadow of the events in the text itself that are to be revealed. Now fighting fire can mean many things, such as fighting an actual dangerous fire, fighting for knowledge, or even fighting against something that is like a flame, such as life problems or stress. In this specific memoir, it is all three of the possibilities. Caroline Paul fights against all forms and ideas of fire. She fights against a flame of a sexist and discriminatory fire department while trying to become a firefighter herself. At the same time she does her best to become a more knowledgeable individual. As she battles against these ideological forms of fire, she fights real fires once she gets accepted into the San Francisco fire department after fourteen weeks of vigorous tests and training. The title connects directly with the book and directly with the events and ideas she wants to get across to the reader. The title is an important piece of the literature, and Caroline really used her title to the fullest potential.
