"She was in a theater watching a movie when a tidal wave of blackness broke over her head. The entire world was obliterated for a few minutes. She knew she had gone crazy" (Kaysen 5). Not a lot of books capture my interest, especially within the first page. I was excited to read this book, at first, but I thought it would be boring and vague. The idea that not even done with the first page, and I already read a line that got me emotional, is just unbelievable. This quote shows the symbolism in life. One may never know what the future holds for them, and it can just hit them in the face in less than a second. This girl, Georgina, whom the quote is about, was in a movie theater enjoying her movie along with the other viewers. In an instant something happened to her mind, she started losing it, and she became mentally ill. She had a history of being depressed during her junior year, and one day it just all hit her. Unfortunately, nothing can be predicted and cured before it starts. Life can hit you hard before you even know it. The only thing one can really do is enjoy the time they have and find things that make life worth living for.
