In the book I am reading, Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris, there were very few connections I had felt to the author after reading three chapters. One of the connections is that his parents had signed him up for activities that he did not really enjoy. For example, he was signed up for guitar lessons, I was signed up for ballet. The difference in that was that Sedaris was able to get out of his activity within barely a year. In my case, I had to attend ballet classes from the age of three until I had a legitimate reason to quit, and that was just this last year because I had to attend Saturday AP World History classes last year. Another connection is that we both had speech problems, even though they were not the same. He had a lisp, I would not talk to anyone outside of my house. David Sedaris had a speech therapist visit him at school, but I had to go to UCLA for reasons I do not remember much, since I was so young. I think these two are the only factors that David Sedaris and I have in common, other than that we are completely different. Sedaris found that he could do what he loves by getting high, and hanging out with people who ruined his life with all the drugs they sold him. My surroundings are no where near as negative as his. I am surrounded by great friends who support everything I do, and I am the same way with them. Also, we do not even need to do drugs in order to be able to enjoy ourselves. From what I have read, I am thankful I do not have much of a similar life as he does.
